About The Queer Thread

The Queer Thread brings embroidery into dialogue with vintage male photography — physique images mostly from the 1950s and 1960s, an era when queer lives were coded, censored, and passed along in plain brown envelopes. By stitching directly into these photographs, I honour the men pictured and reclaim what was hidden: desire, endurance, beauty, and the quiet courage of being oneself in dangerous decades.

Each piece is an act of care. The embroidery slows the gaze, placing attention and tenderness for these men. And for those who gazed, the thread transforms shame into dignity, and erasure into presence.
