Sanctified Fruit

$600.00

Behind the model's head, a lemon rests — halo and slur held in the same gesture. The circular form consecrates what it once condemned: fruit, the word that cut, now luminous above a figure whose stance carries the vulnerability of the martyred St. Sebastian, body offered and unyielding at once. The embroidery does not soften this tension so much as inhabit it, drawing sensuality and sanctity into a single breath. What was used to wound becomes, in the stitching, an emblem of pride.

The model is John Miller. The original photograph was taken by Bob Mizer for the Athletic Model Guild.

Sanctified Fruit has been exhibited in New York City by Collective Z Gallery.
